Crochet Rose Bookmark Tutorial

To create a crochet irish rose bookmark, you will need:

One extra large paperclip
small amount of double knit yarn
a 3.5 mm or 4mm crochet hook
darning needle
small peice of card
small peice of felt
glue, matching thread and a sewing needle


Instructions:
For the flower:
make a 5ch and sl st to form a ring.
Row 1: 5 ch (counts 1tr, 2ch), *1tr into ring, 2ch* repeat from * to * 7 times (forms eight spokes including the 5ch), sl st to 3rd ch in the 5ch.
Row 2: 1ch, *1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1htr, 1dc* into each chain space (forms eight petals).
Row 3: 6 ch (counts 1tr, 3ch), *1tr into top of tr, 3ch* repeat from * to * 7 times, sl st to 3rd ch in the 6ch.
Row 4: 1ch, *1dc, 1htr, 3tr, 1htr, 1dc* into each chain space (forms eight petals)
Row 5: 7 ch (counts 1tr, 4ch), *1tr into top of tr, 4ch* repeat from * to * 7 times, sl st to 3rd ch in the 7ch
Row 6: 1ch, *1dc, 1htr, 5tr, 1htr, 1dc* into each chain space (forms eight petals)
Fasten off, sew in ends using the darning needle.

To construct the bookmark
Cut a circle of card the same slightly smaller than the first two rounds of petals (row 4).  Cut a circle of felt slightly larger, but not as large as the outside row of petals (row 6).
Glue the back of the flower to the top of the paperclip, glue the card to the back of the flower with the paperclip sandwiched between them.
Glue the cicle of felt onto the card.
If desired, sew round the edges of the felt to attach it to the back of the crochet flower.
